Surfers Paradise Network Design Seminar "Huge Success"

21-Nov-2011

Belden conducted this event at the Royal Pines Resort for 3 days from November 15. Titled the "Hirschmann Mission Critical Network Design Training Seminar", delegates had the choice of 3 presentations or hands-on labs at any time, as well as daily key-note presentations on network security (Yokogawa), a case study from Queensland Nickel, and a preview of Hirschmann accredited training options now being offered in Australia by RMIT.

Delegates were well catered for socially, with the highlights being dinner in the resort's new 'Videre' restaurant with views over the Gold Coast, and a visit to the Burleigh Heads Brewery for a tasting conducted personally by award winning brew master Brennan Fielding.

With the event being over-subscribed, Belden's Asia-Pacific marketing manager Adam Callender described the event as a "huge success". "The level of engagement of delegates with the presenters showed a thirst for knowledge in this field, and the networking between delegates during breaks showed all parties were keen to find partners to work with in rolling out high performance networks" he added.

Topics Covered

The seminar covered a wide range of contemporary industrial ethernet network design issues including:
  • Network Management
  • Managing Multicast Traffic
  • Wireless Best Practice
  • Network security techniques
  • IEC61850 - communications in power generation and distribution
    + more

Following on from the success of a similar event in Bangkok earlier in 2011, Belden demonstrated their commitment to the Australian market by bringing key members from their German office, including product managers Jeurgen Schmid and Mark Cooksley, and trainer Nils Buecker who was also in Australia just a few months earlier working with RMIT in developing their Hirschmann certified training.

Nils commented: "I was delighted by the level of enthusiasm by delegates, particularly in the hands-on labs where they had the opportunity to configure real-life scenarios including VLAN, Redundancy, Routing and Wireless Bridges. I think however the largest impact was in understanding how important it is to develop secure networks, not only from hackers, but more commonly by staff making mistakes". He concluded by saying "for a secure network, companies need a combination of policy, defence in depth network mechanisms, and regular auditing to ensure the protections remain in place, and that policies are being enacted".

Don't take our word for it, see the Hirschmann Seminar Report at ProcessOnline.
