What is a positive opening safety contact?Positive opening contacts are physically separated by a shearing force to break any contact weld when the actuator is acted upon. This also often performs a contact self-cleaning function. These contacts are also referred to as 'direct acting' contacts. Proper fuse or protection rating is required to help avoid contact weld in the first place. Standard IEC 947-5-1 describes the requirements for positive opening contacts. Conforming products are often identified with the arrow symbol. |
